Our Favorite Small-Town Closed Door Romance Series

Love in Starlight Valley by Tiffany Noelle Chacon and Lindsay Rochester

We’re starting with our own series because we created Starlight Valley out of everything we love about small-town romance.

As one does.

Starlight Valley is a tiny mountain town that sits directly on the Tennessee–North Carolina state line. As in, the line runs right through the center of Main Street. You can cross the road and technically cross into another state—which creates all kinds of opportunities for rivalries, traditions, and small-town shenanigans.

The town has plenty of quirky places we desperately wish we could visit in real life, including the Milky Way Café & Bookshop and Wilhelmina’s Whisteria, a flower shop run by an eccentric woman who is extremely committed to the color purple.

But our favorite part is the people.

The series follows the Dawson family, a big, close-knit family who love each other fiercely, tease each other relentlessly, and have no concept of minding their own business. You’ll also find plenty of meddling townspeople, swoony kisses, mountain adventures, moon-themed titles, and familiar characters popping up throughout the series.

Basically, we took everything we love about small-town romance, tucked it into the Blue Ridge Mountains, and added a lot of stars.

The series begins with the free prequel novelette, Shoot the Moon, followed by Promise You the Moon.

Laurel Falls by Lindsay Rochester

Known for its waterfalls and apple pie cookies, Laurel Falls, Maine, is the kind of town that makes you want to pack your bags immediately.

The series has quirky townspeople, fun seasonal activities that will give you FOMO, lots of banter, and swoony kisses. The characters quickly start to feel like friends—and if you love Courtney Walsh, we think you’ll love these too.

Happy in Honey Hill by B.R. Goodwin

Honey Hill is filled with quirky characters who are always getting into everyone else’s business.

You know. As all good fictional towns should be.

B.R. Goodwin’s sense of humor shines in this series, but she also handles some difficult subjects with a lot of care.

Though we’re still not over Pamela.

Holidays with Hart by Courtney Walsh

This series has cute holiday events, swoony romances, meddling family members, and the small-town gossip mill we all know and love.

It follows the Hart sisters, with each sister getting her own holiday romance. Because apparently one holiday happily-ever-after was simply not enough.

We agree.

Lucky in Love by Gracie Ruth Mitchell

Listen, Gracie Ruth Mitchell can do no wrong in our book.

Her ongoing Lucky in Love series follows a set of siblings (3 sisters and a brother) falling in love in Lucky, Colorado—which is almost too perfect a setup for a romance series.

Expect fantastic banter, lovable characters, swoony chemistry, and plenty of heart.

Only Magic in the Building

This multi-author series is set in the whimsical town of Serendipity Springs, where a historic apartment building has a habit of playing matchmaker.

The building brings residents together in all kinds of unusual ways, with just enough light magic to add some whimsy.

A magical building determined to make everyone fall in love?

Honestly, where do we sign a lease?

Oakley Island Romcoms by Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor

If you love Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor separately, just wait until you read them together.

The Oakley Island series follows three sisters who inherit their grandmother’s beach house and move to the island to renovate it. It’s funny, beachy, swoony, and filled with quirky island characters.

There’s also an attack pelican.

Obviously, we were sold.

Falling for Summer

This multi-author series is set in the fictional beach town of Sunset Harbor and has all the sunshine, romance, and summer activities we could want.

We especially loved the crossovers between the books. Sunset Harbor feels like a real place where everyone is continuing to work, fall in love, and get involved in one another’s lives—even when they aren’t the main characters.

Sweater Weather

First of all, a round of applause for this series title.

Could there be anything cuter?

Sweater Weather is a multi-author series set in Harvest Hollow, a fictional town filled with cozy fall vibes. While it doesn’t have quite as many crossovers as we remember Falling for Summer having, it still creates a town that feels lived in.

We can picture the businesses. We remember the gathering places. And Harvest Hollow was inspired by a town near Lindsay, which makes it extra fun.

Love in Sunshine by Genny Carrick

We absolutely ate up the tension and banter in this series.

Sunshine, Oregon, has festivals, small-business rivals, outdoor adventures, and plenty of residents who are overly invested in everyone else’s lives.
